John Swift QC, the Rail Regulator said:"I have worked with Roger Salmon since our appointment as Special Advisors to the Secretary of State for Transport. The two of us have therefore been closely involved in the radical and demanding processes of the privatisation and reconstruction of the railway, to which he has made a major contribution.
"My office will continue to work closely together with the Franchising Director and his successor and with the railway industry to build a better passenger railway".
