See Baker Street, Farringdon and Loughton Underground Stations on Sunday 15 September, when London Transport will be welcoming visitors as its contribution to London Open House Day.
Visitors will have the opportunity to admire the architectural features of stations which on weekdays they rush through without a second glance. Parts of Baker Street and Farringdon Stations date from the 1860s, when London led the world in introducing railways underground. In contrast, Loughton is one of the finest examples of late 1930s architecture.
Although the regular guided tours from 1100 to 1700 are free, visitors to Baker Street and Farringdon will need a Travelcard valid for Zone 1 or a Platform Ticket (cost 40p) just before they join the tour.
Public transport is an ideal and trouble free way of visiting the buildings which are open to the public on 14/15 September, especially with a discounted Family or Weekend Travelcard. For journeys on the Underground in Zone 1, a Carnet of ten single tickets gives a 10% saving on normal fares.
London Open House is co-ordinating arrangements for over 350 buildings throughout Greater London which will be specially open as part of a Europe-wide cultural event. Full details are available from the organisers on 0181 347 6007.
