A Train Operator’s assistance to a customer who was being assaulted by a gang, a Station Assistant who helped paramedics tend a passenger who had fallen on the track and two Revenue Control Inspectors who designed a computer database saving LUL approximately £10,000, are just 4 of the 32 members of London Underground staff who have been nominated to receive accolades at the 1996 Employee Recognition Awards Ceremony.

The successful nominees have been invited to attend the annual awards ceremony on 9 December at London Underground’s headquarters, where Managing Director, Denis Tunnicliffe will present them with tokens for either a keepsake gift or an activity gift such as hot air ballooning. Recipients will also receive a certificate and a silver lapel badge.

The recognition scheme was introduced in 1995 to express thanks to those employees who have made outstanding contributions towards customer and business service.

There are no restrictions on the number or type of award and the nominations for 1996 include staff who have excelled in areas encompassing customer service, team work, innovation, safety, money saving initiatives and humane acts.

Denis Tunnicliffe said: "It is especially pleasing to see the variety of ways in which people have contributed towards providing our customers with a truly excellent service, to recognise those contributions and to see the obvious enthusiasm with which the awards have been received."
