Station car park security to be stepped up _______________________________________________________________
 type Press release
An £800,000 package of improvements at station car parks to increase safety and security for customers is announced by London Underground today.
Attendants will be on duty during the day where there are more than 70 spaces for vehicles. Other measures to upgrade security will include better lighting, higher grade fencing and surface repairs. London Underground believes that the presence of attendants will make the car parks more secure.
However, to fund the attendants, charges for all-day parking will have to be increased marginally by an average 40p. This is the first rise for four years and still represents excellent value for money.
The plan of improvements has been developed jointly with the British Transport Police and the three car park operators following recent successful trials at Chorleywood, Arnos Grove and Hounslow West Stations.
Mike Horne, Commercial Development Manager for London Underground said: "We recognise that security at station car parks is a significant concern and, in liaison with the BT Police and the car park operators, we've taken steps to introduce real on-site improvements. I am sure that customers will welcome these beneficial changes to the service they are being offered."
"Although we're putting up charges by this very small amount, this is still superb value for money when compared with the costs of parking in the City and West End."
