The Rail Regulator, John Swift QC, has approved new services for North Western Trains to open up new routes to the capital for this summer's timetable, it was announced today.
The Regulator's decision follows an inquiry last month into proposals put forward by NWT. New services include direct link trains from Rochdale to London and Blackpool to London and daily services from Manchester Airport to London.
The Regulator believes services are in the public interest and will real bring real benefits to passengers by opening up new opportunities to travel by rail.
There has been strong support for these services from passenger representatives as well as local authorities in the North West.
NWT have been required to co-operate with Virgin Rail to ensure that distribution of ticket revenues genuinely reflects the way passegers choose to travel.
