STATEMENT DATE 11-05-2002 21.00 hrs
Jarvis extends its deepest sympathies to all the victims of the tragic Potters Bar accident and to their families.
Jarvis is co-operating fully, along with all other relevant parties, with the British Transport Police and HSE inquiries into the accident. Jarvis holds the contracts for both track renewals and track maintenance for East Coast Main Line, which includes the track at Potters Bar. Jarvis took over the track maintenance contract on 1st April 2001.
Under the terms of the contract, Jarvis, together with Railtrack, implements a rigorous system of checks and tests of all track, signalling points and other components of East Coast Main Line. These safety procedures are the most intensive ever employed.
Our extensive records show that all maintenance work in the area has been carried out fully in accordance with Group and Line standards. This particular site was last inspected on 9th May and the points in question were compliant with standards at the time of this inspection.
Jarvis is making the detailed records of all checks and tests undertaken fully available to the inquiries.
