GNER is pleased that it is not featured in a critical report on railways in the North of England, published today by the Transport Committee.
GNER spokesman Alan Hyde said: “The Committee’s concerns appear to be directed at other parts of the rail industry, so we are pleased at our omission from today’s report. Indeed, when the Committee visited us last summer they seemed impressed by our staff training and development and our efforts to deliver ever-higher standards of service on behalf of passengers.”
In last week’s National Passenger Survey, GNER was again rated the best long-distance train operator in the UK with 87 per cent of passengers either satisfied or very satisfied with their GNER journey. Only 4 per cent were dissatisfied.
GNER is currently spending £100 million on rebuilt and more reliable trains, extra seats, modernised stations, bigger car parks and improved information to passengers.
In summer 2002 GNER introduced the most frequent service ever between Leeds and London with 53 services a day and the introduction of modern ‘White Rose’ trains, leased from Eurostar (UK) Ltd.
The company continues to receive no Government subsidy.
