The Wrexham, Shropshire and Marylebone Railway Company today welcomed the announcement by Andrew Davies, Minister for Enterprise, Innovation & Networks on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government that it has agreed with Network Rail to provide new infrastructure facilities at Wrexham General.

The new facilities will enable the company to service its trains overnight at Wrexham creating up to 60 new jobs.

The agreement demonstrates the commitment of both the Welsh Assembly Government and Network Rail, which will enable the company to run direct services between Wrexham and London starting next year.

John Nelson, a Director of Wrexham and Shropshire said: “I should like to place on record the company’s appreciation of the support this investment represents for our train service proposals.

We are conscious that many people have worked very hard to secure this outcome and we are grateful for their efforts.

Whilst we await the detail of this decision from the Welsh Assembly Government it is already clear that it will strengthen the application the company is making at the end of November to the Office of Rail Regulation seeking approval to run our services.”
